NEW MATHEMATICAL TRAILS!!! ... for Keswick, Penrith, Kendal, Millom, Tullie House Carlisle, The Beacon, Whitehaven and Barrow Dock Museum
These activities have been put together by consultation between staff at the Museums and the County’s Numeracy team.
The aim of the activities is to use information from the museum as a basis for mathematical investigation, and especially as a vehicle for teaching the skills of problem solving, speaking and listening in mathematics, and “using and applying”.
Just a few of the activities should be selected for the children: these might well be done in the supported groups that the children were in for the first part of the museum visit. The children will then find the information necessary, and work on it back at school. It is not envisaged that all the children will do all the activities!
The documents are created in Word, to allow for easy adaptation. Please feel free to do so!
We hope that you and your pupils enjoy these activities, and that they both enhance your visit to Cumbrian Museums, and bring Numeracy alive in your classroom!
